DRIVING
From Taunton to Bampton
Approx distance: ~20–25 miles (depending on route)
Approx drive time: ~30 minutes by car.
Suggested route:

Head south from Taunton on the A358 towards Tiverton/M5.

Join the M5 south at Junction 25.

Leave at Junction 27 (signposted Tiverton).

Follow A396 north through Tiverton towards Exe Valley.

Continue on local roads/B3227 to Bampton.
Notes: This is a scenic rural route following the Exe Valley.
From Minehead to Bampton
Approx distance: ~18 miles
Approx drive time: ~35–45 minutes by car.
Suggested route:

From Minehead, head east on A39.

Join B3224 / B3227 towards Taunton direction.

Continue towards Wiveliscombe / Exmoor area, then join B3227 towards Bampton.
Notes: Rural roads with varying speeds; plan extra time if unfamiliar with local roads.
From Exeter to Bampton
Approx distance: ~21–23 miles
Approx drive time: ~30–40 minutes by car.
Suggested route:

From Exeter city centre, take the M5 north.

Leave at Junction 27 (towards Tiverton).

Take A396 north (Exe Valley route).

Continue on minor roads via Tiverton towards Bampton.
Notes: Straightforward motorway plus scenic valley drive.
From Barnstaple to Bampton
Approx distance: ~50–55 miles
Approx drive time: ~1 hr 15 mins – 1 hr 30 mins by car.
Suggested route:

From Barnstaple, join the A361 south-east towards Tiverton.

Continue on A361 until it meets M5 near Tiverton area.

Leave the A361/M5 and follow A396 south/east to Bampton.
Notes: The A361 (North Devon Link Road) connects Barnstaple to Tiverton area and is the main route for this journey.

Generally available on residential streets but is limited in the centre.

Road closures and special parking arrangements are in place (usually last Thursday of October), with parking at the recreation ground
Cycling to Bampton
On the National Cycle Network Route 3 – which runs through Mid Devon, Bampton sits directly on this long-distance route.
Cycle racks are located by the public toilets on Station Road. and by Seddon’s estate agent on Brook Street
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The nearest mainline station is Tiverton Parkway, with regular services from London, Bristol and Exeter. From the station, travel into Tiverton town centre by bus or taxi, then take the 398 bus (Tiverton–Dulverton), which stops in Bampton.
Bampton is also accessible from Exeter or Taunton by bus to Tiverton, with onward connections to Bampton. As services are rural and less frequent, please check current timetables before travelling.
