About Us.

We have genuine local artefacts on display which come from our extensive collection. These themed displays change regularly. We have an amazing 8ft static model of the town’s old railway station which shows the platforms, lines and sidings as they were when the line closed in 1963.

There are large, bright information boards telling the history of Bampton and fascinating short videos to watch on many subjects including the Exe Valley Railway, Bampton Church and Bampton’s geological past. There is also a collection of old photographs of Bampton dating from 1880 to 1960 and an album of photographs of many Bampton people from the early 1900’s onwards. Our collection of oral histories features local residents telling their stories of Bampton as it was when they grew up.

For children and families, we have a Family Town Trail Quiz.  We also have a fun children’s quiz trail, where they can search for the hidden objects in the Centre.  We have a small retail shop where we sell local history books, walks books and maps as well as local gifts, Bampton mugs, tea towels and other goodies.

We run Guided Town Trails from between April to October and additional dates can be offered to visiting groups and organisations by arrangement. For those who can’t get about, there is a Virtual Bampton Town Trail available to watch on our video player or on YouTube

We often get asked to help people trace their family history. Whilst we can sometimes assist through local knowledge, we do not provide a genealogy service. Please email info@bamptonheritage.com with any queries and we will see what we can do to help.

In 2019 we embarked upon a project called 'Bampton: Our Buildings' which collected information about the most iconic and interesting buildings in our town.
