Education and Learning

Education has played an important role in Bampton’s development, evolving from informal teaching and small local schools to more structured systems over time.

Early education was often limited and closely tied to the church or local community. As the population grew, more formal schooling emerged, reflecting wider national changes in education.

School buildings and records provide insight into how opportunities for learning expanded, shaping future generations within the town.

Bampton C.E. Primary School was founded in 1992 as the result of local reorganisation of Bampton First, Bampton Middle, and Shillingford First Schools. The distinctive new school shown here in its rural setting at the edge of the town opened in May 2008.
